Starting a Pastel
I started working on a new painting today. I’m using Wallis Belgian Mist, a heavily sanded paper perfect for soft pastel. I begin with a sketch of my objects using soft vine charcoal, and establish some shadow areas.

Now I’ll take this back to the studio and begin adding some color to it starting in the shadow areas. Then I’ll define the lightest areas, and begin adding local color.
