New Purples

A few days ago, I mentioned I needed some new purples. The UPS truck was here today and brought me my goodies. Here are four new purples:

I tried to get the numbers on each stick. All are Sennelier, except the 2nd from the left. That’s an Art Spectrum Jacaranda #T522. The Sennies (L to […]

Dumb Daisies…

I’m going to leave off on this for a while. I can’t see what I’m doing… I’ll come back to it with fresh eyes in a couple of days.

Again, the colors of the petals aren’t as bright in real life as what I see on the monitor. I’ll try to do something about the lighting […]

Daisy Basket Update

Okay, I’ve stepped way out of my comfort zone with the light yellows & pinks. I’m not sure I like the changes I’ve made, but I’ve got to start making them look more like white flowers!

I think I’ll darken the yellows on the center daisy a bit, and refine the flowers towards the back- with […]

Daisy Basket - Step 4

I had a chance to work on the daisy basket while hubby entertained the puppy this afternoon.
I’ve tried to tone down that mutant daisy in the back, and added some blues from the Mount Vision 510-513 series to the middle grouping of daisies. They are the yummiest blues! I also added a lighter blue-green to […]

Look Who’s Talking!

Hi everybody! It’s me, Daisy Dog! I’m writing in Mom’s blog today because she’s up to her elbows in today’s Thanksgiving dinner preparations. This is my first Thanksgiving, but I think it’s a celebration about food. My kind of holiday!
Actually, it’s a North American holiday when folks take time to give thanks for all their […]

Daisy Basket Step 3

I’ve added more blues, and some purples to the petals. I’ve lightened the upper right with a medium dark turquoisy looking color. I’ve also added some dark red to the basket, and some goldish browns in the sunlit areas.

The blues seem a little bright on my monitor, and the newer background doesn’t really show up […]

Daisy Basket Update

I’m starting to add highlights and detail to the Daisy Basket. I’m only doing a little at a time so I don’t ruin it. It’s the darks that make the lights so lovely. I’m also free handing the rest of the drawing, as other methods have not been working so well for me. It’s slower, […]

Pastel Demos

While learning how to use soft pastels, I’ve found a multitude of excellent demonstrations on the web. I’ve gathered my bookmarks, and created a Squidoo Lens for them all. Links to soft pastel demos dominate, but I’ve included a few for oil pastels too.
There’s a section on pastel storage solutions, and links to making your […]

Pastels: What I’ve Learned So Far

What I’ve learned so far is that there is no one definitive right way to use these things. What works for artist A may not work for artist B.
My first pastel was a complete disaster. Well, actually more than one but that’s beside the point. So I bought a book. Then I bought a couple […]

Daisy Basket, Step 2

I got some time to work on the Daisy Basket while the other Daisy was sleeping.

I’ve filled in the empty spots in the background using additional shades of dark greens. This is not showing on my monitor.
I’ve added more color to the daisies. Greens & yelow greens comprise the center, and various shades of grayed […]
