Winter Colors: Boxwood
The winter months aren’t completely devoid of color, but it isn’t as obvious. I’ve begun a series of pastels that I’m calling Winter Colors to convince myself of this, and I’m using whatever I can find around the property for the series. The Elegantissima Boxwood growing next to the driveway is a wonderful example of winter color, fresh from the yard. This is the beginning of the second in the series, and I’ve started with a wash as the first layer.

I don’t know who’s bright idea it was to put them in a glass jar…

This is the second layer of pastel. It’s been applied dry, and I’ve indicated the first few leaves and the location of the berries. I’ve refined the jar, and added a cool medium blue in the shadow areas. I hope the little sprigs I clipped this morning don’t wilt under that hot lamp before I’ve finished.
The Boxwood Sprigs are 12″ x 9″ on Wallis Belgian Mist.
