Happy new year! Goodness, it’s been a while since my last post! The holidays always seem to get the better of me and while the furnace was out, it was just too cold to do much besides cook. I spent most days reading by the fireplace, and some new book reviews are coming soon…

Everything from the utility side of the basement went into my work area while the new furnace was getting installed, and I’ve managed to get it all put back over there and get my studio back. Since it’s clean (for a change) I thought maybe you might like to see where I work.

The big brown box on the table is a tool chest from Lowes. I keep lots of odds n’ ends in it, and the deep drawers are perfect for storing extra pastels. I can keep my favorite colors in stock. Yes, that’s my artwork decorating the studio.

It’s a very bright basement, and the live plants are a welcome addition. The dried flowers don’t need much light. The brand new electrical box can be seen in the corner. I guess it was bigger than the last one.

The magazine rack houses pads of paper, masonite panels, or anything else that’s flat. The leaves from my dining room table rest on top as an additional shelf. The table leaves make a nice base for still lifes when I feel like working from a standing position only. I prefer using a drafting table instead of an easel. Vertical work is extremely hard on my arthritic shoulder.

You can see the beginnings of my next set-up for my Winter Colors series on the table in the back. I put some holley berries in that cute little jar I used with the boxwood. I haven’t decided on red or blue gingham, or just use the table top… My pastel box is is in the lower right of the picture.

I cleaned off the pastels and reorganized them a bit. I now see I need to round out the mid-range greens and blues. I also see that I don’t have enough purples. I’ve got a really great dark one though- Sennelier #478. Oh la la!

Ha ha! They won’t stay this way very long!

I’ve tried to make our basement a cheerful and happy place to work. It’s not bad for a basement studio! I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour.
