Head and beak contours are critical in determining the species, and wings are very complicated structures. I use reference photos a lot! You've got a great selection of tools- use all of them, & send me a linky. Out with all the mediums to see what works best....pencil, tech pens, pastels, colored pencils, etc. Can you believe that people say they are bored....pick up a pencil...good luck with your work.
