Pastel: Church Candles
It was nice to be able to start this in a clean studio. The layout was done with soft vine charcoal in about 20 minutes, and the colors blocked-in and fixed after another hour.


It’s always amazing to see what happens to a perfectly good sketch after the initial block-in is complete. It’s an ugly phase of development to be sure, and it’s about this time I start wondering okay… how do I fix this?
Another 45 minutes has helped a lot, but my allotted time for the WDE has been used up, and this is how it looks after 2 hours:

There’s still more to do, but it’s starting to look like candles again. I’m working on 12×9 paper this time, as I found the 12×18 taking too long to complete last week.
