Blogspot: Artist’s Progress

Good grief. I’ve been so involved with my self-imposed art studies that I forgot some really big news. What’s the really big news? I’ve been featured as artist of the week at Artist’s Progress, hosted over at Blogspot. Wow!

Sue Whittick’s blog includes how-tos on all kinds of media. Her most recent works are using encaustic wax, and they’re just beautiful! She also uses acrylics, watercolors, soft pastel, and oil pastel equally well. Oh! And she also likes creating mosaics, which is something I’d love to try someday. I’m not familiar with encaustic wax, but if I ever decide to try it, she’s got a great set of directions on How To Do An Encaustic Wax Landscape.

Sue features a new artist every Friday. In addition to sharing images of her own work, her numerous demos cover a large range of media. Visit the Artist’s Progress to see her artwork, or to learn how to do some of your own!

Today, I’m setting up my workspace for my Van Gogh project. What that really means is that when I walked into the studio this morning, my last mess was still all over the table and I’m going to have to clean it up before I start another.

I’m still mulling over which color scheme to use with my sunflowers. I love Vincent’s colors, but they were also his colors. I want to capture the spirit of Van Gogh, not copy him. I also want my own artistic muse to be equally apparent with Vincent’s. Don’t want much, do I?

I know, I know. This is an art blog, so where’s the picture? Haha. Waiting for me to clean that mess off my bench, that’s where. In the meantime, I thought you’d like to see the sunflowers in their natural habitat, before me and my kitchen shears made a trip to the garden.

Sunflowers are a favorite here. Not only with us, but with birds, bees, and squirrels, too.
