Sunflower Progress
If you recall, the sunflowers I’m doing for the Fine Line Artist’s study group began as a horizontal sketch, and the vase had 15 sunflowers. The biggest change came when I altered the format from landscape to portrait. I’m also down to 12 sunflowers, which is okay, because Van Gogh also did a Vase with Twelve Sunflowers (twice)!

Van Gogh would’ve redrawn the whole thing first, but I have a valid quantity of blossoms, and a color scheme that’s somewhat Van Gogh-ish. Oh, yes! Yes! Vincent himself might have done something just like this- almost-kinda-sort of! Okay, maybe on one of his bad days.
I’ve addressed my issues with the mutant sunflower, and am much happier with the layout. What is the most surprising to me, is the brightness of the sunflowers. I’ve added a lot of very deep yellows (browns) and more oranges (yellow-reds) and they still hurt my eyes. I’ll be doing some refining to the petals, adding some leaves, and defining the stems before this is finished.
I have two more days…
