Oh! The flowers!
Oh! The trees!
Oh, these stinkin’ allergies!
Are there any remedies?
Try Benedryl or Claratin-D.
Yellow blossoms bloom so bright,
Glowing gold in warm sunlight,
Is it they that cause my plight?
Forsythia and daffodils!
To the store to buy more pills.
What’s that scent upon the air?
A peach and cherry blossom fare?
Oh look, another Bradford Pear!
It’s such a warm and sunny […]

Last week’s WDE is being hosted from Michigan, my home state. Holland may be home to the tulip festival, but I was raised in Ann Arbor. So cheers to the yellow and blue!
Wolverine Tulips
Soft Pastel, 12 x 9
As far as I know, these are completely made-up tulips, so don’t go off looking for bulbs […]

I think today’s headline says it all. The General’s white charcoal arrived, and I’ve finally finished the WetCanvas workshop.
Dianna’s last step was to sign the finished piece. My signature often appears rather sloppy, so I incorporated my initials into the tablecloth design under the dish.
Dianna’s Treat
Soft Pastel, 9×12
Licorice Allsorts are one of Dianna’s favorite treats. […]

Remember the hat lady? I’ve been tinkering around with an updated version of her today. The new drawing is on 11×14 inch paper, and she’ll eventually be transferred onto a 12×16 inch pastel support.
As you can see, she’s no longer playing an invisible saxophone. She still needs a flower basket, but I’m undecided about putting […]

This weekend’s drawing event is hosted from Manitoba, Canada. Again, many images I’d like to sketch, but I’ve started with the sailboats, which were extremely popular this week. Several entries were done in either watercolors and acrylics.
The pencil sketch was done in under an hour.
Maryland has many picturesque water views, and is a popular […]

I finished the pink violets, and now I need to find a way to neatly initial my work.
Pink Violets
Soft pastel, 9×12
I thought African Violets were supposed to be small, but there are many strains of violets. My violets are 10-12 inches across. If you’re looking for something smaller, you’ll want a miniature variety which stay […]

I’ve been working on the violets, but haven’t finish them. It’s taking longer than I expected, but that’s not really a problem. After all, it’s not like they’re impatients.
The WDE photos are available, so I’m off to find something for the sketchbook.

I love flowering houseplants, and asked my husband if we could get some African Violets because I thought they might make pretty pastels. He came home with four of them, and I got busy getting them out of those tiny little starter pots and into something more suitable. They grew, but never bloomed. It […]

This week’s comments on my WDE drawings have really surprised me. Although I worked much harder on the popcorn cart, the hat lady seems to be the favored drawing. So now I’m thinking about doing something with her in pastel.
I’ve always been fond of Monet’s La Promenade, and I was thinking something similar might work […]

Dianna’s remaining instructions have been posted, and the workshop is coming to an end. The piece is almost done, and when the charcoal pencils I’ve ordered arrive, I’ll finish the pattern on the tablecloth and edges of the plate.
It’s so hard to not finish this with white pastel pencil, but Dianna has good reasons for […]
