Consumer Awareness Week

Did you know that this is Consumer Awareness Week? Yep, right here in the good old USA we have consumer awareness week which runs from April 16th to the 20th. Good grief. At our house, every week is consumer awareness week!
The mystery pastel has been updated, and I think there’s enough here that it shouldn’t […]

Mystery Pastel

I’m continuing to layer pastel onto the Wallis sanded paper. Wallis paper has a deep tooth that accepts LOTS of layering. Is it still a mystery still life? Haha. Not to me, but I already know what it is.

I left the bottom three items alone, as any further development on them would be a dead […]

Lucky Friday

Happy Friday everybody, and if you hadn’t already noticed, it’s also the 13th. Have you ever wondered why some folks think this day is unlucky? I have, and found some trivia about it at FactMonster.
I started a new pastel today. Here’s a partial block-in:

Can you tell what it is?
Yes, it’s a still life.
No, they’re not […]

Pastel: White Water Lily

Water Lily Update

I’ve continued to layer colors. The bottom lily pad is still showing some bare spots, and the flower reflections need to be completed before I initial this.

Nymphaeaceae is the botanical name for water lilies.

Pastel: Another Waterlily

Today I started working on another waterlily. I located the flower and leaves with soft vine charcoal, and then did a rough block-in of the general colors. The pastels were then lightly blended in order to cover the support without filling in the tooth.

Using a Monet-like color scheme, I then began to layer more pastel […]

WDE: April 6, Waterlily

This week’s WDE is being hosted from Olympia, Washington, and I couldn’t resist trying the waterlily. Monet is one of my favorite artists, and I adore the paintings he did of his gardens in Giverny.

Waterlilies were a favorite of Monet, and I think they’re one of mine, too.

Arts n’ Crafts: Flower Pots

Although convenient, I get tired of mass produced items and enjoy something a bit more personalized. Lately I’ve been looking for flower pots so I can separate my African Violets. I haven’t found anything unique and different, so I decided to try decorating some of my own.

I found some craft paint from DecoArts […]
