I planted my slug trap on Saturday. It’s the bottom two-thirds of a beer can, with earth heaped up around the edges. Half full of bad beer.

I checked it this afternoon, and I had caught 9 slugs and 2 snails. Thanks, Lisa!

And ironically enough, we had a party last night and someone brought a case of Budweiser cans. “What the @$#%()& am I going to do with these??” sez I. I was going to throw them out. Now I know exactly what to do with them!

Mom says the best remedy for slugs is beer.

Use a shallow pan (Pyrex pie pans work well) and pour some beer into it so it’s about 3/4 full. Place the pan so the rim is just above the ground level. The slugs go in, but they can’t get back out. It’s not known whether they drown, or die from alcohol poisoning.

Remove any dead slugs on a daily basis, and give ‘em fresh beer every 3-4 days. This can also be done with the canned varieties by burying the can almost to the rim, and filling half full of beer.

Note: A true brew connoisseur would never, ever drink canned beer.
