First Aid

Microsoft has updated it’s software again, and websites everywhere have gone kablooey. The blog has always been iffy on Internet Explorer, but it went completely blank with version 7. Time for some website first aid.

I guess the first thing you’ll notice today is the new Wordpress template. I hope you can see it…. I’ve been testing it at Browsershots.org but I still don’t have complete results for all the browsers I’m testing. It needs some patching up, but hopefully IE 7 users can at least see it.

The second thing you’ll probably notice is that some of my links are missing or have moved. Although not quite complete as I write this, the biggest change is that I’ve created a new section on the main website for miscellaneous stuff.

Book reviews, articles, and the old website’s links are now located in the Classroom. I’m hoping to have the complete website menu added to the top of the blog ASAP. Unfortunately, I’m still doing a little of the coding around here.

The website has also seen some major revisions. First, I’m using a template from Free CSS Templates. There’s no point in reinventing the wheel when there’s so much free (and pre-tested) code available. Secondly, I’m now using Gallery, a free image management application that my hosting service provides.

What this means to you: I probably just blew away any links to the website you may have had saved somewhere. Sorry.

And my last bit of news? I stubbed my toe yesterday. Not terribly big news I know, but it never quit hurting. After a while, I noticed my shoe felt like it was fitting a little funny, and I figured I better take a look at the silly thing. So off came the shoe…

After I came down off the ceiling, I found the first-aid box I’ve had for the last 15 years (but never had an occasion to use) and got a handy-dandy roll of gauze out of it. There were even some cute little medical type scissors in there.

I haven’t had a first-aid class since Jr. High, but I remembered how to tie a splint. Isn’t it amazing how pain can fetch even the most distant memories?

my right foot

I guess my week got off on a bad foot. ;)

I love that pastel sampler! Such a cool idea. And I like your new blog look. CSS is useful, if you can just beat it into submission. ;)

Sorry about your toe! I run into stuff all the time. My toes are all crooked.

Love the pastel piece you’ve done, it looks really sharp!

See? Microsoft changes things yet again and the result is that websites go wonky, people become confused and now you’ve gone and stubbed your toe. How many people will need to injure themselves before Microsoft learns to just leave things alone? ;)

Have to agree with the others as I like the Pastel Sampler as well.

Sorry to read about the rough trot that you are running into. Microsoft like to keep us on our toes…. no wonder you stubbed yours. ;)

Hi Meg. I’m glad you like the new look. PLD Linux isn’t happy with it, and MS runs the gamut. Crooked toes are only a problem when they get caught cheating at cards.

Hi Rita. Websites either go wonky or completely blank- those are the worst. Four versions of IE and none of them display the same. Good grief.

Hi Susan. IE is always my problem child. I can’t wait ’til it grows up and moves out!

I’m glad you all like the sampler. It started as project for the website, but I ended up liking it too!

Thank you for the toe condolences. I’m such a klutz sometimes!

Making Crepes is one of the best you’ve done of people. It is so much fun watching the progress you are making!
