Caned & Able

** Poppy Update **

My husband is so wonderful. An ordinary man would’ve brought home a get well card, or a bouquet of flowers for his injured wife. Not my guy. Ask for a cane, and you get a cane.

Actually, I haven’t been able to navigate the stairs to the basement studio. Since that is no longer the daunting task it once was, I asked him to take the poppies back downstairs where I’d be able work them. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that sooner.

Today I toned down the most distant flowers by using a medium earthy-red across them. I also added a touch of the same color to a few places in the shrubs. I used a much deeper red in the foreground poppies, and scribbled in a few more greens. There’s also been some gray-greens added to the big cyprus.

I think all it needs now is some definition to the trees at the far left, and a few more detailed flower heads at the very front.

I don’t know what I was thinking yesterday. I forgot to mention anything about the sampler. I added two more book reviews when I revised the website, and the sampler is a variation on an exercise from one of those books.

I wanted something that wasn’t already in the Gallery for the Classroom page, and I thought something similar would be appropriate. I let my charcoal lines remain, and really like how it turned out. It’s different from the original exercise, as I used some different leaves and put it all on one sheet of paper.

The website menu was added to the blog header area, and it looks like the CSS monster is still winning. Nutz.
