WDE: Making Crepes

This week’s photos are from a well-traveled member in Oklahoma. The photo I chose was taken in Paris, France.

I try to participate in the Weekend Drawing Event regularly as an avenue to better drawing. Pastels are a drawing medium, and to say my drawing skills have been rusty would be a gross understatement. They’ve been awful, and there’s only one way I know how to improve them. Do more.

I noticed a big improvement from the waterfall to the field of poppies. The only change was about a dozen drawings done in the sketchbook in between the two pastels. The odd ink colors are also a challenge to work with.

Anyway, I hope I’m not boring you with my silly drawings, because you’ll probably be seeing a lot more of them. It’s been three years, and I’m finally starting to see some improvement in my work. It’s about time.

Not boring at all Lisa! I’ve got to say that I really like the piece above, it’s not typical subject matter is it? On top of that it’s nice to see work in inks for a change as opposed to the usual suspects such as acrylics, oils, etc.

They say “practice makes perfect”. Or in the case of art, practice makes it pretty darn close to perfect. ;) Good work!

Oh Rita, I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You know, if we lived in Paris it might be typical. ;)

Practicing is much easier when you have something you like using. I love my new ‘tools.’ Lots of color without the clean up.
