Summer Fun

Carousel Horse
Carousel Horse
Ink, 10×7

Summer fun isn’t always about fun in the sun. There’s grass to cut, weeds to pull, vegetables to pick, and bees to tend. The zucchini has taken over as usual, so I’ve been baking loaves of zucchini bread as fast as I can for whomever will take it off my hands. I may have to resort to baking muffins I can throw at passing motorists.

The lettuce and tomatoes are almost ready, and the cucumbers get picked daily. We have lots and lots of cucumbers. Fortunately, the neighbors are always happy to take some of them off our hands, and Daisy likes one mixed into her dog food at dinnertime.

Anyway, I haven’t given up art, I’ve just gotten very busy with a few other things that require my attention. The green beans will be ready soon, and I’ll be freezing most of them for our wintertime meals. In between drawings, I’m pulling weeds and baking up a storm.

Whew! I’ll be glad when growing season is over.

Wonderful piece! Did you know that there is a musical called “Carousel”? It has beautiful music!
Anyhoo, No need to rush or anything. Although you do make wonderful pieces and I do love to look at them. I understand being busy. :)

Lisa, the horse you’ve posted is gorgeous! I love all this ink work you’ve been doing, it’s tempting me to try it out myself! ;)

Between art and growing veggies it seems that one needs a day planner just to get daily chores organized during the summer.

As far as the zuchini goes I should give you a recipie I have for Chocolate zuchini cake that is absolutely scrumptious! I always grow to much to eat too… I guess my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

    Beautiful!

I so understand about being busy. I have been anxious to work on art myself but Summer has been go, go, go!

    Lisa,

Thanks to your wonderful slug trap suggestion, I am overrun with strawberries, so I feel your pain. However, they’re much easier to get rid of than zucchini. I’ve only had to make one cobbler.

I really like the depth those inks bring to your pieces!

Hi Angela! Thank you. I’m tickled you love looking at my drawings. I’ve heard of the musical, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

Hi Rita! Thank you. The inks are a nice bright addition to the sketchbook. I’d love to keep my working palette to twelve colors, but that’s not gonna happen. I just got some new colors from DickBlick.com. The singles are selling for about $1.50 ea.

Yep, too many veggies and not enough tummies to put them in. I’ll swap you my zucchini bread recipe for your cake recipe. Never met a cake I didn’t like.

Thank you Kasie! If you have kids, make that fun X 10!

Thank you Meg! The inks are really bright and I just love playing with them.

So, slugfest ‘07 was a resounding success? Yay! Yep, everybody wants the strawberries, don’t they? Psssst, they’re good on vanilla ice cream too.

Have you tried battered and fried thinly sliced zucchini? It’s great with burgers instead of french fries. Try Cooks.com for recipes… I think that’s where I found one that was pretty good.
