I think you did a good job for being new to cats! I like the colors, but I'm a sucker for the blue/orange combo.  :D

It's a fairly good likeness to a lion! My main suggestion is to keep the level of detail consistent; the eyes and muzzle are very well-drawn and realistic, but the fur is a bit more blended, especially on the face (mane's pretty good)! Making the level of detail more consistent might make his eyes "sit" in his face better.

I really like that muzzle, and the colors you used for shadows in the fur are great - picking up the background shades - and it gives the piece a lot of depth.</description>
