But, I Don’t Like Bright Colors

After Monet: Cliff Walk At Pourville
Soft Pastel, 8 x 11
I don’t like bright colors. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. You’d never suspect it from today’s pastel, would you? I take days deciding what color beige to paint the living room (to match the dirt, of course), but my artwork contains every bright color I have in the pastel box. Go figure.
Today’s pastel is a copy of Monet’s Cliff Walk at Pourville. I enjoyed doing the last one, so I decided to try another. Copying the masters is a traditional way of learning how to paint, and it’s great when you just don’t know what to work on next.
Compared to the original, my colors are much darker and a lot brighter. The original has lots of sailboats in the background. I forgot to put them in. My clouds aren’t even close, and one of my walkers appears to have developed a cramp. Other than that, I think it turned out pretty good.
