Mysore Shoppers

Mysore Shoppers
Soft Pastel, 16 x 12
Hooray! My two shoppers are done! I got rid of those ridiculous looking flowers, and the two vendors behind the right shopper were smushed into the distance. The background isn’t so busy anymore, and I’m a lot happier with the composition.
Some skin tones were lightened, and darks were added behind the left shopper. Lighter tones were added to the background, and baskets were added behind the figures to give the scene some continuity.
If you’re wondering what I used to create their jet black hair, I didn’t use any black at all. It’s the same principle I apply to using white; don’t do it. However, if you must use it, use it very, very sparingly.
The darkest areas were created using Sennelier #478, a very dark purpley-gray. The highlights were made with Mount Vision purples and blues. I really love my Mount Visions. They’re about the same size as a Unison, but cost a lot less. As far as softness, they’re somewhere between Sennelier (very soft) and Rembrandt (firm), and they make the yummiest blues!
Grocery shopping in India is quite a bit different than it is here. I don’t look anywhere near this nice when I go shopping!

Lisa,
I love how this turned out. The colors are beautiful. I especially like the woman on the right in her golden outfit.
Lisa, this is wonderful and I’ll echo Meg’s comment in that the fabric for the gold/ orange outfit is really nice!
If it’s any consolation, I certainly don’t look that nice when I’m shopping either.
Thank you, Meg! Thank you, Rita!
I’m happy with the right side shopper too! We won’t discuss that other hussy with her. Why use a brush when scissors will do?
:D:D
Oh, I can just see myself walking out of the local supermarket, all dressed in silk, with a 37 lb. bag of dog food slung over my shoulder and riding the cart through the parking lot screaming “I’m king of the world!”
