Weekend Update

WDE Barn
Ink, 7 x 10
There’s been some progress made in the basement, but not nearly what I’d hoped for. I had no idea that putting in some storage cabinets was going to be this complicated.
So far, we’ve removed the moldy panel, as well as the wallboard behind it. I’ve also been informed that removing the bottom 2 feet of drywall and replacing it with the (much heavier) mold resistant type will be required for all the other walls. Sheesh, all I wanted was a place to put things! I’ll start painting the new drywall as soon as the boss will allow it, but why the back wall of a closet requires sanding is beyond me.

The storage cabinet drywall is in.

Some new floor tile!
The light colored floor tiles are a big improvement. The room is already lighter and brighter, even though only a small area has been completed. I’m crossing my fingers for some cabinet construction this weekend. Please wish me luck. I really hate prodding (nagging) my husband into a construction zone after he’s worked in one all week. Besides, he makes a lot better money at his other job!
In the meantime, I’ve been filling up the sketchbook with more than just beer cans. Today’s drawing is one from last week’s Weekend Drawing Event, and I’ve also been putting these copyrighted little darlings into it.
I finally added a new section to the Gallery page for copies of famous artworks. The Old Masters section currently contains the six Monets I did last year. Rita Woodburne is planning a continued study of the Van Gogh project this year, and I’m looking forward to learning more about Vincent and his work. One month just wasn’t long enough for a thorough study, and now I have a good reason to go back and copy the Quince Pears I never got around to doing. Starry Night would also lend itself to pastels quite nicely.
Hopefully, most of the construction project will be done in the next couple of weeks and I can get back to some normal activities down there. The drywall dust is worse than pastel dust!

Very nice sketch Lisa! I love old barn images, especially in b&w, there’s something very nostalgic about them.
My sympathies with the renovating. We have moldy drywall issues too so I know what a pain the patookus it is to get that stuff replaced. Just think though, when it’s all said and done you’ll have a beautiful new (mold-free) area to work in!
I know I’m going to eventually love the changes we’re making, but oh, this in between stage is making me crazy. It’s too long between weekends, when my personal contractor is available for home improvement jobs.
I love old buildings and old barns. They have a character about them not seen in modern architecture. Unfortunately, they’re slowly disappearing from the landscape to make way for more subdivisions, and who wants to paint those?!?
