Brush Pen Color Chart

Color Chart*
Faber-Castell Brush Pens
I needed to reorder some brush pens the other day, and missed getting one of my most used greens. On-line color charts are a nice idea, but unless they’re pictures of actual color swatches, aren’t very accurate. The one I missed looked like a light yellow, and silly me didn’t bother reading the number.
Then again, sometimes those numbers mean nothing, especially if the manufacturer changes the color, but keeps the same number. Notice anything about #268, Green Gold? There are two color swatches next to it. Gees, they could have given it a different number! They only make 48 colors, and there are lots of other numbers available besides 268.

Green Gold #268?
Still, I like these little pens. They’re light fast, and even somewhat blend-able if freshly applied. I don’t know what I’ll do when my original green gold is gone. It was great for early foliage and sunlit grass, and the other two greens I’ve tried weren’t suitable replacements.
If you need skin tones, the Terra set plus #132, light flesh, will work well. Skip #131, medium flesh, unless you’re doing peonies. Cinnamon is a much better choice.
So which are my most used colors? The first four from the Terra colors, the violet from the Basic set, and the entire Landscape set, which is a good thing, because I can’t seem to find #174 available for individual purchase.
The rest of ‘em can all be bought singularly, so I don’t have to buy a whole set of pens I won’t use. It was nice to try out the different colors, but some of them are too bright for my tastes, like #171, Light Green. That one looks like a day-glow green from the 60’s.
*All 48 colors are not shown. I’m happy with what I’ve got, and it’s doubtful I’ll be adding anything new to the line-up.

I have #268 from the 30-count set, and it matches the top one in your picture. That’s really weird. The other one doesn’t look green-gold at all.
The top one came from the landscape set, and the replacement I bought is on the bottom. They aren’t even close in color!
I wonder if they’ve changed the color, or if there are two: one for sets, and one available individually. I’ll have to get another landscape set to see what’s in it.
