N is for nib. N is for needlepoint, nippers, and newsprint. N is for Niji waterbrushes and Northlight books.

N is for Naturalism, Neoclassicisim, and Art Nouveau. N is for Netherlandish art, naive art, and narrative art that tells a story. N is for nocturns that are painted at night.

N is for the negative space that defines an object, and for the natural light from a north facing window. N is for notan, the harmoniuos arrangement of light and dark.

N is for Naples yellow, nacarat carmine, and napthol red. N is for nickel yellow, native earth pigments, and Native American art. N is for the neutral colors that make all the others appear brighter, and the natural resins used by the oil painter.

N is for Nasmyth, Nathe, Nielsen and Nivoulies. N is for Niemann, Nightingale, and Neeffs. N is for Noel, Nordgren, Nerdrum, and Nobel.

N is for the nothingness of a life without art.

    N is my favorite so far. That made me think about whether I actually have a favorite letter as I do have a favorite number. I think O might be my favorite letter…nice and round and open.

    I get so excited when I get a new announcement from your blog that there’s a new letter to see!

    Thanks Jana! In general, I don’t really have a favorite letter, or a number either. Someday, after I win the lottery, I’ll have six favorite numbers!

    I just got a sepia Pitt pen, and used it for Rembrandt’s sketch even though he used black. I love it on cream colored paper. Kinda like a big chocolate cream candy for the eyes. :D

    Yes, Alphonse Mucha and the art noveau style… Incidentally, Mucha used Neutral, muted colors in his posters… And so does Nerdrum (mainly shades of Earth tones).
