Abandoned Barn
Sketchbook, Ink
While I was uploading this drawing, it occurred to me that I’m running out of ideas for naming pictures of old barns. Old barn #2 doesn’t do much for me, and since they’re just drawings in a sketchbook, I wonder if I need to be naming them at all.
I see shelves!
In spite […]

Pencil Jar
Sketchbook, Colored Inks
There’s something magical about viewing a work of art from a darkened room. The outside environment seemingly disappears leaving only you, and the artwork. For the fine art patron, it’s an enchanting experience. For the fine art curator, it’s about keeping the artwork in the best condition possible.
The conservation of fine art […]

Old Barn in Snow
Sketchbook, Ink
Pen and ink is well suited to old barns, don’t you think? I love my Rotring, but the fine point is better suited to larger works, or at least better quality paper. I have an extra fine tip pen on backorder, and hope to be getting it soon.
I’m getting down to […]

Mother Goose
Sketchbook, Ink
The sketchbook continues to fill up while I patiently wait for my basement to be returned to working order. Hopefully, this will not be much longer, as the building materials have been stacked against the deep freeze, and I need to get into that, too. Today’s drawing is one of the better ones […]

Leap Year, 2008
Sketchbook, Brush Ink Pens
The year 2008 is a Leap Year, and today is Leap Day. If you were born on Leap Day, you’re a leapling. Congratulations, you’re a very special person. We regular folks have a birthday on the same day, year after year. That’s not very special, if you ask me.
Leap Day […]

Train Station
Sketchbook, Ink & Colored Pencil
Another week has come and gone, and my contractor is still tied up at his other job. He finds the most creative ways of avoiding my honeydew list, doesn’t he? He managed to squeak in a little time for my cabinets yesterday, which I gleefully traded for a haircut. I […]

Market Scene
Sketchbook, Ink
Man has been interested in documenting his surroundings ever since he discovered he could use burnt sticks to decorate the living room wall. Just take a look at the abundance of artwork discovered in numerous caves around the world! The only fact of which we remain uncertain, is whether these early cave paintings […]

Lepidoptera Valentinis
Sketchbook, Ink, 9 x 6
If you don’t recognize the plant, it’s called a butterfly bush. They can grow quite large, and some species will bloom from spring until frost. The blooms come in various colors, with yellow being somewhat rare. The little butterflies are even more rare than the blossoms!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

African Violet
Sketchbook, ink over colored pencil
Ah, February. Spring is on the horizon, and hoards of D.C. baseball fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of opening day at the new stadium for the Washington Nationals. Scheduled to open April 2008, it’s no where near being ready. In fact, my general contractor will be working there 7 […]

Pabst Blue Ribbon
Sketchbook, 10 x 7
The wood panel came down over the weekend, and we found 12 rusty beer cans behind the wall. Quite an elegant way of hiding contraband from the boss, isn’t it? Notice the old-fashioned pull tab opening? When I was a kid, pull tabs could be chained together to make groovy […]
