A sleeping baby
Pencil Sketch, 10 x 7
This is a pencil sketch from this week’s Weekend Drawing Event at WetCanvas. I’m really pleased with how close I came to getting to the baby’s likeness, but portraits aren’t easy, and babies are even tougher! No distinguishing features, no wrinkles, (no hair!) just pudgy, round, everything!

American Goth
Sketchbook, 9 x 7
For all you trick-or-treaters,
Going out tonight,
A scary jack-o-lantern,
Will give an awful fright.
There are spooks in every shadow,
And ghosts behind the door,
The creatures of the night,
Are with us ever more.
Watch out for those goblins,
And beware the tricky witch,
Take heed of headless horsemen,
Lest you scratch their itch!
But of all the creepy critters,
That come […]

Ink & Colored Pencil
Last Friday’s WDE was hosted from Australia. I wasn’t sure if this was a real junkyard, or somebody’s sculpture. Either way, be careful of whom you hand over your keys.

The Raft Skipper
Ink, 10 x 7
It’s Friday! The images for this week’s Weekend Drawing Event were posted this morning. Why I chose this one, I’ll never know.
The skipper is smiling because he’s rafting in Utah. Although my drawing doesn’t show it, he’s also wearing his PFD. That’s short for Personal Flotation Device. When I […]

Ink, 10×7
Yep-per, I’m still playing with carousel horses. What’s that you say? I’m too old to play with carousel horses? Just because I officially turned into a 49-er this week doesn’t mean I can’t play on the merry-go-round. Heck, you should see me on the swings!

Uncle Sam
Ink, 10 x 7
Okay, it hasn’t been the 4th of July since last week, but we’ve been busy with bees, potatoes, zucchini and beans over the holiday weekend. Lots more zucchini bread made it to various neighbors and friends, one of whom handed me a carton of farm fresh eggs in return. Think that […]

Rose Runner
Ink, 10×7
Oh looky! It’s another carousel horse! I’ve always loved carousel animals, especially the horses. There’s something magical about them.
The Kentucky Derby is also known as the Run for the Roses. I think I have a contender!Technorati Tags: art, drawing, illustration, carousel horse

Carousel Horse
Ink, 10×7
Summer fun isn’t always about fun in the sun. There’s grass to cut, weeds to pull, vegetables to pick, and bees to tend. The zucchini has taken over as usual, so I’ve been baking loaves of zucchini bread as fast as I can for whomever will take it off my hands. I may […]

Pen & Ink, 7×10
What’s up? The heat and humidity have returned to Washington DC, and today we turned on the central air conditioner for the very first time. We haven’t had central air since hubby waterproofed the basement 4 years ago. The new unit arrived with the furnace we got earlier this year.
Today, I […]

Poppies
Ink, 7×10
I decided I’d put some poppies in the sketchbook before I try to put them in a pastel. When I finish my latest landscape, I’ll be drawing them in freehand. I thought a little warm-up exercise certainly couldn’t hurt, and this gives me a better idea of the shape of the blooms. I’d forgotten […]
