Weekend Drawing Event

A sleeping baby
Pencil Sketch, 10 x 7
This is a pencil sketch from this week’s Weekend Drawing Event at WetCanvas. I’m really pleased with how close I came to getting to the baby’s likeness, but portraits aren’t easy, and babies are even tougher! No distinguishing features, no wrinkles, (no hair!) just pudgy, round, everything!

Ink & Colored Pencil
Last Friday’s WDE was hosted from Australia. I wasn’t sure if this was a real junkyard, or somebody’s sculpture. Either way, be careful of whom you hand over your keys.

Beside Himself

Beside Himself
Mixed Media, 10 x 7
This week’s WDE offered a challenge: to fuse a reference with my own inspiration. I used half of one of the portraits, and fused it into the sketchbook with Double Tack. Then I penciled in the rest of him.
I remember doing a similar exercise in high school using photos from […]

It’s Friday

The Raft Skipper
Ink, 10 x 7

It’s Friday! The images for this week’s Weekend Drawing Event were posted this morning. Why I chose this one, I’ll never know.
The skipper is smiling because he’s rafting in Utah. Although my drawing doesn’t show it, he’s also wearing his PFD. That’s short for Personal Flotation Device. When I […]

WDE: Happy Dance

The images for this week’s WDE were posted on Friday, and I finally finished the Mexican dancer I’ve been working on.

Mexican Dancer @ 2 hrs.

I had a dickens of a time with her feet and her face doesn’t really resemble the woman in the photo, but who cares? She looks female and […]

Saturday Stuff

I was up and about doing some household chores this morning, and then headed off to the weekend drawing event at WetCanvas.
As usual, there was more than one photo that got my attention, and I started with the strange, tropical pink flower. I don’t have any pink ink, so I decided to try it in […]

WDE: Making Crepes

Making Crepes
WDE June 1, 2007
This week’s photos are from a well-traveled member in Oklahoma. The photo I chose was taken in Paris, France.
I try to participate in the Weekend Drawing Event regularly as an avenue to better drawing. Pastels are a drawing medium, and to say my drawing skills have been rusty would be a […]

Long Weekend

Tomato & Onions
India Inks, 10×7
This is a long weekend for most people living in the United States. Cook-outs and picnics are common activities over the long holiday weekend, and many folks will be traveling to their destinations in spite of the rising cost of gasoline.
The tomato & onion illustration is for the May 25th WDE. […]

Thai Cafe

Thai Cafe
Inks, 10 x 7
I know what you’re thinking… she’s given up pastels for ink. Not really, it just seems that way because I’m obsessed with a new toy.
Pastels need to be protected once they’re finished. Unless I choose to frame it, it goes into a portfolio between 2 sheets of glassine paper and I […]

Banana Blossoms

Banana Blossoms
Inks, 8×5
This week’s WDE takes us to Thailand, where people have banana plants growing in their backyards instead of snapdragons.

Happy Birthday Teri!
